Will Laser Hair Removal Work For Me

If you are considering trying laser hair removal, your first question is likely "will it work for me?" The answer is yes and no depending on you and your skin type. So let's take a look at the factors that will determine what type of success you can expect with a laser hair remover.

Because of the way lasers work, some people will achieve better results than others. Without getting too technical, lasers work by using high intensity light to penetrate your skin and act on the hair follicle itself. Exposing the hair follicle to this brief burst of ultra bright light damages and/or kills the follicle resulting in permanent hair removal. The ability of the light to travel through the skin and effect the follicle is directly dependent on the skin tone and hair color. Let me explain further.

The ideal candidate for laser hair removal has light skin and dark hair. This makes sense because the light can easily penetrate the light skin and is better absorbed by the dark hair. These individuals will require the fewest, if any, re-applications to achieve permanent hair removal. Now, for those with darker skin tones and/or lighter hair, the ability of the light to penetrate and act on the hair follicle becomes more difficult and less efficient at damaging the follicle. This does not mean lasers will not work for these individuals, but it will likely require more than one application for permanent hair removal.

There are individuals whose skin tones are too dark for efficient laser hair removal. Lasers can be used on those with very dark skin but the results will be less than desired often with many repeated applications. If your skin tone is very dark, you still have an effective option for hair removal. Probably the best alternative to lasers is the No No hair remover. The no no employs an ultra fine heat transferring filament that vaporizes the hair above the skin and sends a heat pulse to the follicle in order to damage it. And the best thing about the No No is that it will work on any skin tone and any hair color. The No-No actually "super-heats" the hair to remove the hair above the skin and damage the follicle below the skin. So if you don't like the smell of burning hair, it may not be for you.
